Overview
The Oxford MSc Financial Economics is a nine-month, full-time postgraduate programme delivered by Saïd Business School in partnership with the University of Oxford’s Department of Economics. The programme combines financial economics, finance, economics, quantitative training, and practical applications for students targeting finance, consulting, investment, and related business careers.
For UCO Business users, this programme is most relevant to the Finance, Economics, Consulting & Project Management, and Management pathways. It may suit students interested in investment banking, asset management, private equity, financial markets, corporate finance, financial analysis, management consultancy, and analytical business roles.
Students should review the official Saïd Business School programme page before applying, including the latest entry requirements, application deadlines, fees, deposit information, recommendation requirements, interview or assessment process, scholarships, and living-cost guidance.
Entry requirements
Applicants should hold, or be predicted to achieve, a first-class or strong upper-second-class undergraduate degree with honours, or the international equivalent. The degree does not have to be in Finance or Economics, but applicants must show very strong quantitative skills.
At the start of the course, students are expected to have a working knowledge of calculus and the basics of vectors and matrices, probability, statistics, and econometrics.
Applicants must upload university academic transcripts showing subjects studied and grades obtained. A valid GMAT or GRE General score is required before the chosen application deadline; Saïd Business School does not provide GMAT or GRE waivers for this programme.
Work experience is preferred but not mandatory. Relevant internships or professional experience are considered. Applicants must upload a one-page CV, provide three academic or professional references, submit a 500-word essay, complete a Kira Talent video assessment, and pay the application fee.
English requirements
Applicants who are not nationals of a majority English-speaking country must prove English-language capability unless a waiver applies.
Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced, Cambridge C2 Proficiency, and Oxford Test of English Advanced.
Minimum TOEFL score: 110 overall, with Listening 22, Reading 24, Writing 24, and Speaking 25. TOEFL scores must be from one sitting; TOEFL Best Score is not accepted. Oxford will not accept TOEFL tests taken from 21 January 2026 until its review of the revised test is complete.
Minimum IELTS Academic score: 7.5 overall, with at least 7.0 in each component. IELTS General Training and IELTS Online are not accepted.
Minimum Cambridge C1 Advanced score: 191 overall, with at least 185 in each component.
Minimum Cambridge C2 Proficiency score: 191 overall, with at least 185 in each component.
Minimum Oxford Test of English Advanced score: 165 overall, with at least 155 in each component.
An academic English waiver may be possible for a recognised full-time degree-level course of at least nine months taught and assessed entirely in English, completed within two academic years of the programme start date, or for a degree completed in a majority English-speaking country. A professional waiver may be possible for substantial professional experience in a majority English-speaking country.
