Overview
Imperial College London MSc Finance is a one-year, full-time postgraduate finance programme at Imperial Business School. It is designed for candidates with an excellent quantitative background, good communication skills and leadership skills who are preparing for finance careers in sectors such as investment banking, asset management and consultancy.
For UCO Business users, this programme is most relevant to the Finance pathway, with links to Investment Banking, Financial Markets, Asset Management, Corporate Finance and Risk Management.
Imperial states that MSc Finance applicants should preferably have a First Class Honours degree from a recognised university, though applicants with an Upper Second Class Honours degree or international equivalent may also be considered. Applicants should have studied a highly quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Finance or Science.
Entry requirements
Applicants should preferably have a First Class Honours degree from a recognised university. Imperial will also consider applicants with an Upper Second Class Honours degree from a recognised university or the international equivalent.
Applicants should have studied a highly quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Finance or Science.
MSc Finance is highly quantitative, so students starting the programme are expected to be proficient in probability, calculus, matrix algebra and real analysis.
Applicants must complete the Quantitative Experience Statement in the application form, listing the most advanced quantitative courses taken and giving brief examples of relevant topics covered.
Imperial strongly recommends relevant internships and work placements. Applicants should list these in the Industrial/Professional Experience section of the application form and in the CV, as they can add weight to the application.
GMAT/GRE is not required for admission to MSc Finance. However, a well-balanced GMAT or GRE score can add weight to the application, especially for candidates with less quantitative degree backgrounds.
English requirements
All home, EU and overseas applicants must demonstrate English-language proficiency.
Students who were not awarded their degree in a qualifying English-speaking country must demonstrate English proficiency by completing an approved English-language qualification at the required level.
IELTS Academic requirement: minimum 7.0 overall, with minimum 6.5 in all elements.
TOEFL iBT requirement for tests taken before 21 January 2026: minimum 100 overall, with minimum 22 in all elements.
TOEFL requirement for tests taken after 21 January 2026: overall score of 5.0, with minimum 5.0 in all elements.
Duolingo English Test requirement: 125 overall, with no less than 115 in any band score.
Imperial accepts both TOEFL score formats for a period of two years. Scores must be valid at the beginning of studies at Imperial if the application is successful.
The Business School does not offer pre-sessional English courses and does not accept attendance of a pre-sessional English course as a means of meeting the English-language requirement.
