Overview
The Cambridge Master of Finance is a full-time postgraduate finance programme at Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. It is designed for finance professionals who want to broaden their finance expertise, strengthen their technical and practical knowledge, and develop their career in financial services or finance-related roles.
For UCO Business users, this programme is most relevant to the Finance pathway, with connections to Financial Markets, Financial Management, Corporate Finance, Asset Management, Risk Management and FinTech. It may suit applicants who already have finance-related experience and want to consolidate their professional profile through a specialist finance master’s degree.
Students should use the official Cambridge Judge Business School Master of Finance pages for application opening dates, final deadlines, tuition fees, English requirements, references, work-experience requirements and supporting documents.
Entry requirements
Applicants need a strong academic background with at least a high UK 2:1 or equivalent in a bachelor’s degree. Any degree subject is potentially eligible, but the required standard for the MFin is higher than the University of Cambridge’s general minimum 2:1 equivalent. Cambridge gives the example that applicants who studied in the USA would need a minimum GPA of 3.6/4.0.
Applicants should have at least two years of graduate work experience in a core finance or finance-related role by the start of the programme. This may include experience in a bank or financial institution, financial accounting, finance-related legal work, or the financial team of a non-financial company. Cambridge states that ideally at least one year should be in a front-office finance role or equivalent.
Applicants need to provide previous degree transcripts, evidence of at least two years’ postgraduate financial work experience, references from two referees including an academic referee and a work supervisor, and English proficiency evidence if required.
GMAT or GRE is not mandatory, but Cambridge says it can be helpful if the applicant is concerned about academic score level or if the degree is in a non-finance-related subject. Cambridge reserves the right to request GMAT or GRE in rare cases.
English requirements
Applicants should be fluent in English to study the Cambridge MFin. If English is not the applicant’s first language, they need to take a recognised English proficiency test within two years of the programme start date.
IELTS requirement: 7.0 overall, with no less than 7.0 in Speaking, Listening and Writing, and 6.5 in Reading.
TOEFL requirement: 100 overall, with no element below 25. Due to TOEFL format changes, if an applicant achieves the specified scores on a TOEFL iBT test taken after 21 January 2026, Cambridge will refer the applicant for a Language Centre assessment.
CAE requirement: minimum Grade A.
CPE requirement: Grade A, B or C, with minimum score of 200 and no element below 185.
